Man remanded over MI5 attack

13 April 2012

A man accused of a machete attack on two security guards at MI5 headquarters was remanded in custody today.

Unemployed William Cornford, 41, of no fixed address, appeared at Horseferry Road Magistrates' Court charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and one of attempted robbery.

He was charged following an incident at Thames House in Millbank, central London, last week in which both security guards suffered cuts and were treated in hospital.

Today, Cornford, dressed in grey tracksuit bottoms, a white T-shirt and blue plimsolls, spoke only to confirm his name and held his head in his hands throughout the hearing.

No application for bail was made and the case was adjourned until Tuesday, September 14.
