Manhunt for serial South-East rapist

Police today launched a manhunt for a violent serial rapist whose victims are believed to include a 10-year-old girl.

Detectives are urging women to be vigilant after they revealed the man is linked to at least four rapes in the South-East and possibly two more in London.

They believe he could strike again and fear he may seriously injure or even kill his next victim.

The assailant is linked to one attack on a girl aged 10 in Kent and three rapes in Surrey within a six-week period this summer. There are also similarities between the attacks and two rapes in London in July and August. If these cases are linked, the man struck twice in one day.

Shortly after one attack on Putney Heath, the rapist used his 26-year-old victim's mobile phone to ring her mother and boast: 'I've just raped your daughter.'

In each instance the victims were approached very quickly from behind and dragged into bushes. Descriptions of the attacker vary but some victims said his breath smelled of alcohol and tobacco.

All the attacks took place during the week, often in daylight and close to busy roads.

Police believe the rapist may have lived in or near Ashford in Kent last year and then moved to Surrey. Anyone with information is urged to ring 0845 6018109.
