Marine found hanged on ship

13 April 2012

A 21-year-old Royal Marine was found hanged on board a Royal Navy warship at the weekend, police confirmed today.

The body of the man was discovered on HMS Albion at about 7am on Saturday while the ship was docked in Devonport Naval Base, Plymouth.

The Marine will not been named until all his next of kin have been informed, but is believed to be from Liverpool.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokeswoman said inquiries into the death were continuing but it was not thought to be suspicious.

HMS Albion, the Navy's 18,500-tonne fleet amphibious flagship, recently returned to Plymouth after six weeks of cold weather trials off North America.
