Maxine Carr has been released from custody, it was confirmed today.

Carr, the ex-fiancee of Soham murderer Ian Huntley, is currently involved in a media battle to prevent the media from publishing any details about her new life outside prison.

She was jailed at the Old Bailey last year for perverting the course of justice after a jury ruled that she had lied to protect Huntley.

The director general of the National Probation Service Stephen Murphy confirmed Carr had been released on licence from Prison Service custody.

She will now be subject to supervision by the National Probation Service.

In a statement, Mr Murphy said: "Maxine Carr has today been released on licence from Prison Service custody and will now be subject to supervision by the National Probation Service.

"The main objectives of supervision are to protect the public and to prevent reoffending.

"Her case will be dealt with in strict accordance with National Probation Service standards."
