Millionaire fatigue hits Avesco

WHO Wants to be a Millionaire? is finally reflecting the big switch off by viewers according to its 49% owner Avesco, which revealed that operating profits from the business that runs the game show tumbled 39% last year and are set to fall further this year.

The programme's owner Complete contributed £7.1m to Avesco in the year to end-March, down from £11.7m in the previous year.

Profits at Avesco's Core Services division also collapsed, leaving the group nursing pre-tax profits of £6.7m against £16.3m in the previous year. Turnover slipped 5% to £65.2m and earnings tumbled 64% to 29.4p. The dividend is held at 13p.
