Mirror circulation still sliding

13 April 2012

A COVER price rise kept Daily Mirror sales income growing in the last five months despite tumbling circulation. Publisher Trinity Mirror reported a 3.3% increase in circulation revenues at its national titles including the Mirror.

Its flagship title's circulation has fallen by up to 9% every month since May when it published fake pictures of British soldiers supposedly abusing Iraqi prisoners. The Mirror now sells 1.77m copies daily. Its cover price rose from 32p to 35p in March.

Advertising revenue growth has slowed at Trinity's regional titles which include the Birmingham Post. Ad sales grew 4.5% in the last five months, compared to 6% in the first half of the year. Group advertising revenues at Trinity, excluding the Irish newspapers sold off in January, rose 4.2% on last year.
