More British Airways misery as last quarter losses hit £150m

12 April 2012

British Airways is set to confirm this week that it is on course for a record loss with another big fall into the red in the third quarter of the year.

In an important week for the airline, City analysts expect losses of about £150 million when chief executive Willie Walsh unveils results for the three months to the end of December on Friday.

The airline is also locked in a struggle with cabin crew over cost-cutting which arrives in the High Court tomorrow.

Unite, the union for cabin crew, claims BA broke staff contracts when it imposed new working arrangements.

If Unite wins the case it will stop BA from making cuts that will save the airline £140 million a year. The union is also balloting about 13,500 BA staff about strike action.
