Naked-Air takes to the skies

We have lift off: the nudists reach cruising altitude
13 April 2012

Passengers on board a flight to Mexico unfastened much more than their seat belts after take-off on the world's first nudist plane.

The flight, dubbed Naked-Air, took naturists on a trip from Miami to Cancun on Saturday - with many passengers destined for nudist colonies on the Mexican coast.

Passengers had to keep their clothes on through security and boarding, but were free to undress once cruising altitude was attained.

However, the flight was not a complete free-for-all. The captain and crew kept their kit on, no coffee and tea was served to avoid painful spills and all hanky-panky was banned.

Donna Daniels, co-owner of the Houston-based Castaways travel agency that organised the flight said: "This is not the Mile High Club.

"These are professionals who lead very stressful lives and are ready to let it all go. They are adventurers and risk takers. They don't even want clothes as a constraint."

Bob Hannaford, from New Orleans, who took the flight with wife Tess, said he was excited to be making history. "We once drove across the country in an RV naked. But this tops that," he said.

As might be expected, most of the passengers were travelling light. Pablo Laboy of Puerto Rico, who was on his way to spend a week on a nudist colony, explained that his only luggage was: "Lots of sunscreen."
