'New clues' in suitcase murder hunt

13 April 2012

Detectives hunting the killer of teenager Terry Edmonds have appealed for information about two "important" new clues.

The 17-year-old was sexually assaulted and strangled before her body was stuffed into a suitcase and dumped close to Tunbridge Wells railway station in Kent three months ago.

Officers want to find a distinctive black, padded jacket with a thick white stripe across the front and white markings on the side. The jacket is possibly hooded. And they are keen to trace the origins of a pink sheet or blanket that was found in the area close to the murder scene.

The dark green suitcase was found near the entrance to the Morrisons supermarket car park in Vale Avenue on April 29.

Terry, of Hadlow, Kent, was last seen alive on CCTV 12 days earlier. She got off a train in Tunbridge Wells at 6.25pm on April 17. She had been living in a nearby Christian hostel.

Police are also still trying to trace a person in a CCTV picture taken at Tunbridge Wells railway station. He or she is wearing a light, peaked cap and black top with white stripes.

Detective Chief Inspector Anne Brittain, who is heading the murder investigation, said: "The black jacket with the white stripe and markings is important to our inquiry. We're asking the public to think hard about this.

"Someone out there may have seen this jacket or knows what happened to it, or where it is. It may have been discarded and found. It may have a new owner and someone may even now be wearing it.

"Somebody must know where the pink sheet or blanket came from. Perhaps it came from a charity shop, someone may have dropped it, or someone may know how it came to be in the area around the murder scene. It is important that police find out about both of these items."

Ms Brittain stressed the importance of the person captured on CCTV coming forward to identify themselves to police. She said: "They may have seen or heard something that will help us with our inquiry. If you know who this person is, please call us."
