Northern line hit by more delays

Thousands of Tube commuters suffered more delays today after the cab radio system broke down on the Northern line.

This meant, for safety reasons, that two drivers had to man the cabs - resulting in a shortage of services throughout the morning peak period.

The radio fault has caused repeated chaos on the line, which used by more than 600,000 passengers a day.

Tube Lines, the consortium responsible for maintenance on the Northern line, said it inherited the problem when it took over two years ago.

But commuters face up to a year of delays before the system is replaced.
