Now it's reigning cats

Dogs have been replaced as man's best friend by their feline rivals, according to a survey today.

Nearly 40 per cent of people named cats as their favourite pet, with just seven per cent preferring dogs, the survey by charity Cats Protection found.

The researchers also claimed that 98 per cent of women would rather date someone who liked cats. Judy Bernstein, from Cats Protection, said: "Research showed that both sexes believe having a cat reflects what kind of person you are, saying that owning a cat showed you was 'caring', 'kind' and 'sensual'."
