Obama calls Kanye West a 'jackass'

12 April 2012

US President Barrack Obama has called hip-hop star Kanye West a "jackass" over his antics at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The President made the remark during an interview with US network CNBC, although it was meant to be off the record.

But the comment leaked out to news sites after a reporter from rival network ABC posted the comment on Twitter.

"Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential," reporter Terry Moran wrote.

Rapper West interrupted country music starlet Taylor Swift's acceptance speech during the music awards show on Sunday night.

After invading the stage he whisked the microphone away from the 19-year-old singer, who was collecting Best Female Video for You Belong To Me.

He then turned to the audience and shouted that the gong should have gone to his friend Beyonce, for Single Ladies.
