Obama family extends spell in the capital

12 April 2012

America's First Family seems to have taken London to its heart as Michelle Obama extended her stay in the city by a day.

Mrs Obama and her daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, eight, visited Harrods last night after a party on the Harry Potter film set with the actors and author JK Rowling.

Their whistlestop tour has seen them take in the Houses of Parliament, Downing Street, Westminster Abbey, a West End musical and fish and chips at a pub.

They arrived on Monday on what was meant to be a 48-hour unofficial visit. They were expected to return home yesterday but spent the day at Pinewood's Leavesden studios near Watford, where filming is under way on Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.

Malia and Sasha, avid Potter fans, are believed to have met stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson and had a behind-the-scenes tour.

Studio bosses threw a party for Sasha, who turned eight this week.

The entourage made their way back into central London for a private tour around Harrods with owner Mohamed Fayed.

They are believed to have ended up in the toy department for Malia and Sasha to choose a gift each.
