Picasso to make a healthy profit for university

Pricey: Pablo Picasso's lover Marie-Thérèse Walter
12 April 2012

This portrait of Pablo Picasso's lover Marie-Thérèse Walter is set to fetch up to £12 million and help fund research into obesity.

The 1935 painting, Jeune Fille Endormie, will go under the hammer at Christie's in London on June 21. Proceeds will support work at the University of Sydney into obesity, diabetes and heart disease. An anonymous donor gave it to the university on condition that it sell it and use the money raised for scientific study. Last year, Nude, Green Leaves and Bust, also featuring Marie-Thérèse whom Picasso met when he was 45 and she was 17, made a record £70 million at Christie's New York.
