Piranha caught in park pond

A piranha found in a park pond in Kent has raised fears that the flesh-eating fish could be breeding in Britain.

Angler Derek Plum was fishing in Radnor Park in Folkestone when he landed a 1lb 4oz red-bellied piranha, the deadliest breed of the native of South America.

Mr Plum, 46, said it took more than 15 minutes to reel in the fish, which was "thrashing and going crazy".

"I felt an almighty tug on my rod — next thing I knew it had dragged my line about 500 yards."

Anglers said they saw fish being dumped into the pond from a bucket last week.
