Plea over pensioners’ snatched minibus

12 April 2012

Thieves in Eltham have stolen a minibus used to take pensioners and disabled people on outings.

The vehicle, which belongs to the New Eltham Sunshine Club, is also used by three other clubs and Age Concern said volunteer driver Mick Shanks, who organises fortnightly trips to the coast and the theatre.

"I just want it back," he said. "I'm not bothered if it's got a bit of damage, I just want to carry on the work. Whoever's stolen it doesn't understand the importance of it. For these people it's the only chance they get to go to these places."

The converted blue Mercedes Sprinter, registration LX51 AOL, was taken from Glenure Road between December 17 and 20. Anyone with information is asked to call Sergeant Marianne Rees on 020 8721 2637.
