'Plot to murder Saddam heir'

Saddam Hussein's youngest son has survived an assassination attempt, according to reports in the US.

Qusay Hussein, tipped to take over from his father, was targeted as he came out of the presidential palace in Baghdad on 9 June, Iraqi opposition sources told World Tribune.

Qusay was meant to have entered a booby-trapped car but was directed to another of eight vehicles in his service.

Seconds later, the bomb exploded, killing a chauffeur and three bodyguards.
