Police find corpse inside wheelie bin

12 April 2012

Murder squad detectives are investigating the death of a man in south London whose body was found in a wheelie bin inside a house.

Police found the corpse after visiting a house in Forest Hill yesterday. Sources say the body - which has not been identified - may have been inside the bin for some time. Scotland Yard said that at this stage they are investigating an "unexplained death".

One source said it appeared that the body had been concealed.

Detectives said they believed the man found dead in the wheelie bin had been reported missing.

They appealed for anyone who had seen people coming and going from the address at 251a Stanstead Road in Forest Hill.

Three people have been arrested, two men, aged 46 and 58, and a woman aged 40. They were being interviewed this afternoon at separate south London police stations.

Detective Chief Inspector Damian Allain, who is leading the inquiry, said: "It is very early in our investigation and we are trying to establish the full circumstances of this death.

"One line of enquiry is that the dead man may be a missing person and we would like to hear from anyone who has seen people coming and going into this address. If you live locally and you have seen anyone going into this address you may be able to provide us with crucial information that would assist this investigation. "

Anyone with information should call 020 8721 4805 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
