Police to quiz McCartney

Questions: McCartney at his London home after the alleged assault

Sir Paul McCartney is to be interviewed by police over an alleged assault during a visit to see illusionist David Blaine.

The star was at the centre of a row after he is said to have pushed a photographer while his colleagues allegedly punched the press man and broke his camera.

Sir Paul, 61, also swore at journalists and a member of the public in Southwark where Blaine was suspended in a glass box.

Detectives from Walworth are investigating two allegations of assault on the night last September before submitting a report to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Sir Paul or one of his companions could face charges of common assault.

The fracas took place after Sir Paul decided to visit Blaine with his publicist Geoff Baker and two of his roadies.
