Premier scores with Curtis

Robert Lea12 April 2012

QUOTED footballers' agent Premier Management has doubled in size after it bought the 99-player stable of Mark Curtis for up to £3.4m.

Curtis, whose players include 23 on the books of Premiership clubs headed by recently capped Michael Ricketts, his Bolton team mate Kevin Nolan and Newcastle's Northern Ireland international Aaron Hughes, will receive £750,000 in cash up front and shares with a notional value of £1.2m.

The balance will be paid in both cash and shares over the next two years depending on Curtis's business, Sports Player Management, growing its pre-tax profit of £716,000 last year at around 12% a year. Premier's boss Barry Gold, who runs the business with former West Ham player Billy Jennings, said: 'Today Premier moves up into the top division.'

Gold has seen Premier's AIM- quoted shares slip from 51 1/2p soon after flotation two years ago to today's 16 1/2p, up 1/2p.

He said that the enlarged group's 300-strong stable is weighted towards the Premiership and First Division and therefore should not be affected by the ITV Digital related funding crisis in the Football League.
