Premiership star in court

A young Premiership footballer accused of driving through a series of red lights while under the influence of alcohol appeared in court today.

Southampton winger Fabrice Fernandes, 24, was behind the wheel of his black Porsche when he was spotted by police going through a red light near the junction of High Holborn and Gower Street, London.

The officers pursued in a patrol car while Fernandes allegedly drove through a further eight red lights in central London.

Bow Street Magistrates' Court was told the player, of Pacific Close, Southampton, was stopped at 4am on May 10 and ordered to take a breath test.
He is accused of driving with excess alcohol, dangerous driving and failing to stop for a constable.

Magistrates granted the player bail to return for a hearing at the same court on June 29.
