Foreign Secretary David Miliband said that the party now needed to prepare for a "second decade" of New Labour.

"It is a fact. We have had ten years of New Labour in government. We have now got to look forward to a second decade," he told BBC1's Politics Show.

"We now have to recognise that 2007 is not 1997 and 2017 is not going to be 2007. There are new challenges in domestic policy and international policy.

"We have got to make sure that we address them."

While he refused to be drawn of the timing of the general election, he said that it was clear that the Conservatives were is disarray.

"I think there is a crisis of Conservatism in this country. The Tories, frankly, are all over the place."
