Protected rock ruined by cola ads

Coca-cola and Pepsi have angered India's Supreme Court after painting advertising slogans on the sides of the Himalayan mountains.

Judges issued notices against the companies over the ads, daubed over 50 kilometres of rock face in Himacha Pradesh, an area protected by strict conservation laws.

It is feared that removing them would cause further damage as it involves litres of paint remover.

A spokesman for Coca-Cola India said the court ruling was a shock, adding that the area came under the jurisdiction of one of its franchisees.
