£5m plaza will say: Welcome to Peckham

Emine Sinmaz12 April 2012

Peckham is to get a £5million revamp to boost its local economy which was badly hit by the riots.

Plans include a new public square outside Peckham Rye railway station and a plaza at the back of the building.

The project will be funded by Southwark council and the Mayor's Regeneration Fund, which was set up to help repair the damage caused to high streets in the disturbances. Boris Johnson said: "The plans are hugely exciting and have the potential to boost the local economy and bring great benefits to everyone in the area."

Councillor Fiona Colley added: "We want to create a fantastic new public square. A grand entrance is just what Peckham needs to welcome residents and visitors."
