Pub sausage rolls for royals as hotel cancels lunch royals

The Earl and Countess of Wessex had to make do with pub food after the manager of a hotel cancelled their lunch booking at the last minute.

Damien McFaul of The Manor House, the only hotel on tiny Rathlin Island off the Ulster coast, blamed the Northern Ireland Office for refusing to confirm the identities of the VIPs due to arrive for crab and lobster.

Edward and Sophie, making the first royal visit to the island, were forced to seek refreshment in the island's only pub, McCuaig's Bar, where they were served sandwiches and sausage rolls amid the pool tables and gaming machines.
