Reticulated pythons are the largest of the python family and are the longest snakes in the world;

Powerful and intelligent, they eat mammals, birds and reptiles;

They are not venomous but deliver slashing bites which can sever arteries and tendons;

They use their 100 curved teeth to hang on to their prey as they squeeze it to death and then swallow it whole;

There are well-documented cases of large adults killing and eating humans The reticulated python captured in Indonesia is 49ft long - the length of about one-and-a-half double-decker buses;

It weighs 985lbs - about the same as six grown men.
