Raid suspect bailed in porn probe

13 April 2012

The man shot during the Forest Gate anti-terror raid who was arrested over child porn offences has been released on police bail, Scotland Yard said.

Mohammed Abdul Kahar, who was shot in the shoulder during the controversial operation in east London on June 2, was released following questioning over alleged offences of possessing and making child sex abuse images.

The images were said to have come to light when anti-terror officers examined a computer seized from Kahar's address.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: "Following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service, a man in his 20s was arrested by officers from the MPS (Metropolitan Police Service) Child Abuse Investigation Command.

"The man, who attended a London police station by appointment, has been arrested on suspicion of possession and making of child abuse images.

"He has now been bailed to return to the police station on a future date, pending further inquiries and consultation with the CPS."

His arrest came just an hour after the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) published its findings into the shooting, which cleared the firearms officer involved of any wrongdoing.

The IPCC ruled Kahar's shooting was an accident and no offence had been committed by the police officer involved, who was identified only as "B6".
