Retired Met officers help Amelie case

Retired detectives are being brought in to help solve the murder of French student Amelie Delagrange.

A team which includes some of the Met's most experienced former investigators is to examine the murder squad's work in an effort to unearth new clues.

The move comes more than three weeks after the 22-yearold was battered to death on Twickenham Green.

Senior officers admit they could be in for a "long haul" in the investigation with police trawling through hundreds of hours of CCTV tapes.

They emphasise the review by former officers is a standard procedure if a murder remains unsolved after a number of weeks. A Yard spokesman said: "They will provide fresh eyes to check if anything has been missed."

A huge squad of officers is now working on the inquiry.

The murder of Miss Delagrange may be linked to a series of similar attacks.

Police have urged women in south-west London to be vigilant when going out alone.

  • Up to 1,000 mourners were expected at Miss Delagrange's funeral today in St Germer de Fly, in northern France. Her family said it would be a " celebration of Am鬩e's life".
