Review boost for jailed 'cot deaths' mother

A mother convicted of killing two of her babies has expressed her joy at a move by the Attorney General to set her free.

Donna Anthony's case is being reviewed because of doubts over evidence from Professor Sir Roy Meadow on cot deaths.

She telephoned her solicitor from prison after Lord Goldsmith, the Attorney General, appeared on television last night to say she ought to be released soon.

Her solicitor George Hawks told GMTV: "She was very encouraged by what he had said. It is very important to her that a senior Government officer believes she should not be in prison."

Anthony has served six years over the deaths of her son Michael at four months and daughter Jordan at 11 months. She maintains they died of natural causes.

The Criminal Cases Review Commission is set to hear her case next month.

If the commission decides to send her case back to the Court of Appeal, she will be able to apply for immediate release on bail.
