Road victim was mugged

A woman found unconscious in the road was probably mugged by two youths seen running from the scene, police revealed today.

A CCTV picture showed the woman lying in the street bleeding from a head wound as drivers swerved past.

The 25-year-old has since recovered but left hospital before police could interview her. She has disappeared from her usual address. The woman, of Chinese origin, had arranged to be interviewed with an interpreter. Witnesses reported seeing two white youths, aged 16 and 18, running from the scene with what appears to have been the victim's bag.

She was attacked near the Coca-Cola industrial park in Cray Road, Footscray, at 2.15pm on 20 September. Despite appeals no drivers have come forward.
