Robbery suspect fakes illness to escape police

12 April 2012

Police were today hunting a suspected robber who fled after apparently pretending to be ill.

Joseph Tucker, 21, was arrested in south-east London on Sunday and taken to Plumstead police station. He was charged with offences including robbery, burglary and fraud and was ordered to appear before magistrates the next day.

In the early hours of Monday he said he felt unwell and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich. He escaped after his handcuffs were taken off for an X-ray. A Met spokesman said: "Tucker is white, 5ft 11in, of medium build with short blond hair. He has links with Plumstead and Thamesmead."
