RTL, UBM agree new terms for Five

12 April 2012

CHANNEL Five owners RTL and United Business Media have agreed the terms of a new 10-year licence with the Independent Television Commission. Instead of an annual cash sum of £24.6m for the licence fee they will pay £4.4m cash a year and 8% of 'qualifying revenue', which is broadly advertising revenue derived from analogue and not digital broadcasts.

Analysts said it should halve Five's licence costs in the immediate future. RTL owns 65% and UBM 35% of Five.
