Ryanair rapped over adverts

12 April 2012

BUDGET carrier Ryanair was today reprimanded for advertising about cheap flights. A newspaper advertisement featured a one-way flight to London Stansted for £19.99, and another to Paris for £29.99.

It then stated the offer was 'every seat on every flight', before adding in small print at the bottom that tickets were subject to conditions and weekend supplement.

A complaint was received by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) from a member of the public who tried to book a ticket and found the offer applied only to midweek flights. The ASA upheld the complaint and asked Ryanair to ensure future advertisements made clear in the main body that seats were available at the quoted prices for flights on Tuesdays to Thursdays only.

The authority also upheld a separate complaint from a member of the public about another advertisement claiming cheap flights which was sent via email.
