Shares put gilts in the shadow

BRITISH equities are yielding more than gilts for the first time since 1959, said broker SSSB. The FTSE All-Share index yield was 4.04% on Monday's close, above the 4.02% yield on the 10-year benchmark gilt. That reflects how much shares have fallen. The crossover has already happened in Japan. 'This is the clearest evidence yet that the cult of equity is over (for now anyway),' said SSSB.
