Siege death shocks street

A man shot dead by police during siege in which his wife was held hostage and injured was today described as "lovely and friendly" by shocked neighbours.

The 62-year-old man, was shot once in the chest as he brandished a gun from a bedroom in his home in Eastleigh Avenue, Harrow, at about 1pm yesterday.

He had fired a shot moments earlier.
