Signal problems and roadworks bring travel chaos

Thousands of commuters suffered a second day of travel chaos today because of signal problems on one of the busiest rail routes into London.

Some South West Trains services between London and Portsmouth were cancelled after part of the line was closed at Havant in Hampshire.

Passengers were advised to consider other forms of transport.

Transport for London also issued "serious traffic impact" alerts for roads across London, warning they were likely to cause long delays.Three sets of roadworks are in Cromwell Road, Earl's Court and Fulham Palace Road; Hammersmith for gas works; and Pentonville Road to repair a burst water main.
