12 April 2012

Singer Youssou N'Dour plans to give up music and enter politics.

The 52-year-old, left, is one of the most influential musicians in Africa and best known in this country for his 1994 hit with Neneh Cherry, 7 Seconds. He intends to enter Senegal's presidential elections in February. He said: "For me, there are two Senegals. The Senegal of the have-nots and Senegal of the haves. My concern is the Senegal of the have-nots."

Amadou Diop, an adviser to Idrissa Seck, a key opposition figure, said: "His movement is going to put pressure on politicians. He's loved by Senegalese and he is a shrewd businessman who has created jobs - this is what the people want."
