Sir Paul McCartney gave me £10,000 'gift', says nanny suing Heather Mills

Evidence: Sara Trumble and Heather Mills arriving at the tribunal
12 April 2012

A former nanny who is claiming unfair dismissal against Heather Mills said Sir Paul McCartney gave her £10,000 when he found out she had quit her job.

Sara Trumble, 26, said he told her it was a "gift" for looking after his daughter Beatrice, although she had not worked for him for over a year since his marriage break-up.

She told an employment tribunal in Ashford, Kent: "I declined it several times. He said it was for my hard work and loyalty. Paul didn't want anyone to know he had given me this money." She said she felt "uncomfortable" being a go-between for Ms Mills and Sir Paul after they separated.

She claimed she was forced to lie about Ms Mills's whereabouts if Sir Paul asked her where his then estranged wife was.

Ms Trumble added: "When Paul brought Beatrice over I had to go out and hand over Beatrice. If Heather was there I would have to say she wasn't. Paul would call me a liar. I had to say things that weren't true to Paul." Ms Trumble said Ms Mills would send out her new boyfriend to flaunt him to her ex-husband.

Ms Trumble, who was paid £260 a week to look after Beatrice, now six, said Ms Mills became rude and bad-tempered after her marriage broke up. She told the tribunal that all Ms Mills's staff, including her housekeeper, her personal trainer, a bodyguard and her personal assistant, noticed a change.

She said: "Everyone was saying how difficult working conditions had become. (It was) not a nice place to work." Ms Trumble, of Westfield, admitted she asked Ms Mills to be godmother to her daughter Lily when she was born in September 2007.

Ms Trumble, who claims Ms Mills made her work long hours without extra pay even when she was pregnant, is seeking compensation on the grounds of sex discrimination and unfair dismissal. Ms Mills, 42, was due to give evidence today. The hearing continues.
