Sir Paul wins radio quiz on Beatles

Humfrey Hunter12 April 2012

Sir Paul McCartney won a radio quiz about the Beatles and scooped a range of prizes - signed by himself. He entered the phone-in contest as he drove through Los Angeles because dozens of callers were getting the question wrong.

DJ Chris Carter, who hosts a Beatles-themed breakfast show on a local station, asked listeners: "What Beach Boys' song does Paul appear on eating a carrot?"

Sir Paul eventually became so frustrated that he decided to ring in himself. Carter was so shocked that at first he did not believe it was Sir Paul on the line.

But, once he was convinced the caller really was the musician, Carter asked Sir Paul the carrot question and, of course, the former Beatle got the answer correct, with Vegetables.

Instead of claiming the prizes, Sir Paul told Carter to give them to someone who would appreciate them more and asked him to play Here Today, a song from his new album Tug Of War, which is dedicated to murdered Beatle John Lennon. Carter said: "It was quite a surprise when Paul called. He told us to keep up the good work."
