Soldiers injured in Iraq blast

Several Britsh soldiers have been injured following an explosion outside a military base in Iraq, the Ministry of Defence confirmed today.

The troops and a number of Iraqi civilians are being treated in hospital following this afternoon's blast at an entrance to a compound in Shaibah, 20 miles south west of Basra.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman could not confirm the number of injured, or if the explosion was the result of a suicide bombing.
