Speaker 'happy' to fight Ukip election challenge

Commons Speaker John Bercow today said he was "more than happy" to defend his Westminster seat from a challenge by Ukip leader Nigel Farage.

Mr Bercow spoke out after Mr Farage decided to defy the convention that a Speaker is not challenged at a general election.

Ukip posted the news on its website today before an announcement tomorrow at its annual conference. Mr Bercow has been MP for Buckingham for 12 years.
