Squatters keep disabled girl out of new home

A disabled teenager who was left brain damaged in a car crash cannot move into her new home because it is occupied by squatters.

Anita Konkel, 16, was knocked down outside Alexandra Park School in Muswell Hill last April. She suffered horrific injuries and has been at a rehabilitation unit since August.

She was due to move into a specially adapted bungalow, which has wheelchair access, with mother Dorothy Kasprus, 36, before Christmas.

But the property in Bounds Green was illegally occupied and Anita and her mother may be forced into emergency council shelter.

Haringey council said it had gone to court to evict the squatters and hoped the property would be ready in up to four weeks.
