St Paul's tent protesters list new demands

12 April 2012

The St Paul's anti-capitalist protesters have refused to pack up their 250 tents unless the City of London Corporation meets a set of demands.

Occupy London says the local authority is "unconstitutional and unfair" and democratic reform is "urgently needed". The group wants the corporation to publish annual accounts and is calling for an end to business and corporate votes in local elections.

It is also demanding the abolition of the office of the Lord Mayor and wants the City of London police decommissioned, with the officers put under Scotland Yard control.

The demands emerged as the next Lord Mayor, David Wootton, said his annual show "must go on" on Saturday, despite the tent city on the cathedral's doorstep.
