Stranded Briton in new setback

13 April 2012

A British woman suffering from hypothermia is facing a third night on New Zealand's highest mountain, despite being located by rescuers.

Antarctic geologist Dr Yvonne Cook, 36, was found in a snow cave by a rescue team about 7,200 feet up Mount Cook yesterday after becoming ill as she began her descent.

She was "stable and comfortable" after treatment on the mountain where rescuers erected tents.

They must wait for a break in the weather before a helicopter can take them to safety.
