Tables are turned at Crockfords

A DOZEN or so high-rolling gamblers walked out of Crockfords with almost £11m more in winnings last summer than punters had won the summer before.

Britain's biggest casino company, Stanley Leisure, said that its Crockfords operation in Mayfair merely broke even in the six months to the end of September, compared with a £10.6m profit a year earlier.

Finance director Michael Riddy said: 'We have to expect the odd turning of the tables at Crockfords because that's how high-rolling works. Fortunately the other 40 casinos and our betting division made up 75% of the shortfall.'

Group pre-tax profits dropped 13% to £21.5m.
