Teacher admits sex with 16-year-old

The Canadian supply teacher who was cleared of indecently assaulting two young boys admitted today that she did have sex with a 16-year-old boy.

Amy Gehring told the BBC she slept with the boy when she worked at another school in Surrey. But she said she was too drunk to remember if she had slept with a 15-yearold at her last school, from where the charges arose.

She insisted in an interview with Radio 4's Today programme that she had not corrupted anyone. Ms Gehring was cleared by a jury at Guildford Crown Court last month of having sex with two teenage pupils. She was cleared of three charges of indecent assault and the judge ordered a verdict of not guilty on the fourth.

After the trial, it was revealed that Ms Gehring had been investigated before and identified as a potential danger to children, but still allowed to work in another school.

Her admission will revive concerns over the system for monitoring supply teachers.
