Teacher suspended after 'lewd e-mails'

A woman teacher has been suspended after she allegedly sent e-mails of a sexual nature to a pupil, it has emerged.

Police confirmed that an investigation has been launched and computer equipment has been seized from Gawthorpe High School, Padiham, near Burnley, Lancashire.The woman has not been named.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said the teacher had not been arrested, but the allegation was being investigated by family protection officers.

"We can confirm that an allegation of a sexual nature relating to inappropriate e-mails has been made about a member of staff at Gawthorpe High School in Padiham," said the spokeswoman.

"The member of staff has not been arrested but has been suspended from the school pending the outcome of the police investigation."
