Teenager killed by lightning

A 14-year-old boy died in hospital today after being hit by lightning, emergency services said.

Ambulance crews were called to an address in Bloxwich, West Midlands, this morningwhere attempts were made to resuscitate the teenager.

The boy was taken from the property in Cresswell Crescent to Walsall Manor Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "It was a freak incident. I have no information on the circumstances."

It is thought that the boy was in the garden of the home when he was struck.
The coroner has been informed of the tragedy.
