The Top Five desinations

Researchers identified the five hotspots where we will be holidaying next year:

1 Bulgaria: huge investment in hotels and infrastructure by holiday firms has brought western standards to the Black Sea. It's cheap - inflation has driven prices down for tourists, so a well-respected bottle of red costs around £2

2. The Caribbean: once a millionaires' playground, the dollar-exchange rate is now so good some of the packages are cheaper than Europe. Mainly English-speaking. Most islands know how to treat western tourists (Jamaica was the birthplace of the "all-inclusive hotel")

3. Portugal: thousands will travel to Euro 2004 next summer. But the tournament lasts just one month and there are plenty of destinations away from the soccer fans. Coastal resorts are touristfocused; the countryside, however, remains largely unexplored by holidaymakers

4. Santorini, Greece: the Olympics might be in Athens but the whole country will benefit from the publicity - and this little island is the epitome of Greece, mixing its 4,000-year-old heritage with an economy geared up for western European visitors out to have fun

5. Florida: September 11 damaged the tourist trade but, thanks to two amazing new rides - Disneyworld's Mission To Space, and Revenge Of The Mummy at the Universal Studios theme park - tourists are flocking back
