Theft of bike is a stake through my heart, says Jon Snow

Repeat victim: Jon Snow has twice been targeted by London bike thieves

Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow said it was "another stake through my heart" when he fell victim to bike thieves for the second time

Snow offered a £1,000 reward via Twitter for the return of his "trusty steed" after it was taken from outside the ITN studios last month. It has not been recovered.

He had secured the made-to-measure titanium Condor Gran Fondo cycle — worth about £3,000 — to a bike rack in Gray's Inn Road with a motorcycle lock, but when he came out after the evening bulletin there was no sign of it. Parking it directly under a CCTV camera was apparently no deterrent.

"It was the second time in a few months so it's extremely annoying," said Snow today. "But I've heard there's new technology where they can fit a GPS chip in your bike, so I'll have that done in the future."

Snow, who is president of the CTC national cycling organisation, tweeted of the July 12 theft: "It's another stake through my heart. The sudden loss of independence, mobility, and that old friend."

In October a "treasured" bike he'd owned for three years was stolen from outside his north London home. Police are investigating.
